Howling Wolf

To understand the Totem Wolf, one must first understand the HEART of the Wolf. This takes time because the Wolf has had to endure many false stereotypes, misconceptions, and misunderstandings. The Wolf has not only been misunderstood and maligned in history but is surely not the vicious intruder of western fairy tales.

The Wolf is a shy, yet very sociable creature with strong rules of behavior. Not at all the picture of ferocity or terror, the Wolf is a creature with a high sense of loyalty and strength. Another misconception is that of the “lone wolf.” To the contrary, the Wolf is actually a social creature, friendly and gregarious with its counterparts. Totem Wolf symbols belong to those who truly understand the depth of passion that belongs to this noble creature. The Wolf is a representative of deep faith and profound understanding. Wolf power or Spirit Animals point to an appetite for freedom and living life powerfully, guided by instincts.

In my case I didn’t choose the Wolf, this Spirit Guide revealed itself to me when I was meditating. The Wolf was my first connection to a Spirit Guide and to American Indians, the Wolf is said to be “teacher” medicine.  Wolf is associated with the lunar influences and energies that rule psychic perception.  They teach us to respect our emotions and face the darkness within. After my meditation I felt the urge to create some Art (the one you see here), that’s when I sealed the communication channel with this majestic Animal Guide.  At that moment in my life, the Wolf was clearly teaching me to discover who I am and to develop strength, confidence, and balance to the varied interests of myself.

Each time an Animal has shown itself to me I felt its unique energy or medicine, for me this is part of the process of developing my inner knowledge and spiritual understanding.  My totem animals now show themselves on different occasions, during a healing session, when I’m meditating, working on my Art or sometimes even when I am in nature going for a walk.

Animals are pure consciousness and linking up with their energy rubs off on us in a pure, positive way. The primary factor in linking up and invoking your Animal Guide is to clean your own energy. The point is to set an intention to become in tune with your Animal Guide. Be confident in the repetition of this intention. Confidence will inspire your Animal Totem to show itself to you as you go on your way through the day.

The Wolf Totem is for me a reminder to keep my spirit alive and trust my instincts to find the way that will best suit me. Wolves are wild animals that are not easily domesticated and when he appeared as a Spirit Guide, it was clearly an invitation to look at what supports my authentic self and what is my highest and truest expression.
