The Archetype of the Mature Masculine: The King

We hear a lot these days about wild women, female spiritual ascension, sisterhood, female mysticism, womb magic, contacting the goddess within and the awakening of the sacred feminine.  By now we have seen what the traits of the Divine Feminine are. Let’s see what the Divine Masculine is! Masculine energy is, of course, totally different from it’s counterpart. While the Feminine is inward directed, masculine is outward directed.

If the Feminine is right-brained, emotional, creative, the Masculine is left brain; understanding through logic, calculator. This is good because logic and reasoning are a tool needed to move through life, especially when it comes to planning and achieving something. The point is that on our planet, this force has been disconnected from its real nature. Indeed the heart-mind connection has been cut, resulting in a mind-driven society.

While it is important that we honor the divine feminine, we must not forget that the divine masculine is alive within each and every one of us as well.

The Divine Masculine is seen in many forms and represented as an archetypal King. He represents a spiritual, psychological, archetypal ideal—the best and most inspiring, elevating, and restorative aspects of masculine expression and manifestation in the universe. “He”—along with the Divine Feminine—exists on a transpersonal, universal level that manifests through an individual’s psyche and becomes thoughts, beliefs, and behaviors.

For a man reading this, you may wish to expand your understanding of masculine archetypes and see how these are showing up currently in your life and then consider evoking a more fuller, or “higher” expression. Men who consciously embody Divine Masculine energy express higher levels of awareness and spiritual states of being along with greater satisfaction in life experience. Women reading this are equally served by contemplating Divine Masculine qualities while seeking to integrate these into their inner male expression.

The King archetype is the most important of the four mature masculine archetypes. Just as a good king in mythological stories is often something of a Renaissance man–a good warrior, magician, and lover–the King archetype incorporates the other three mature masculine archetypes in perfect harmony. A man who accesses the King archetype in its fullness will also have accessed the Warrior, Magician, and Lover archetypes. For this reason, the King archetype is typically the last of the mature masculine archetypes to power up in a man’s life.

In this way, it is truly the crown of the other archetypes, the energy that gives a man a sense of his full, the Divine Masculine potential.

Being with a man who is in the fullness of the King archetype, were the Divine Masculine is embodied feels like this:

He is supportive and nurturing of the well-being and easeful participation and happiness of those he engages with. He is a stabilizing and calming influence in all circumstances. By his balance and “potency” (strength, effectiveness) others are comforted and influenced to imitate his example. His demeanor is “seasoned” and carries wisdom with it, not adolescent impulsiveness. His wisdom carries a transpersonal selflessness—like a kind father. He is an agent of the divine having respect for all life. He is benevolent, even-handed, calm, caring and thoughtfully present—yet passionate in his whole-hearted support. He is grounded in the knowing that everything is as it should be, everything changes, and there is no lack or anything to genuinely fear.

The combination of the Divine Feminine and Masculine is pure perfection. When working in harmony, the Sacred Union of the Divine Feminine and Masculine can unite, transform and create ANYTHING!!!  The synergy created by this balanced union catalyzes the forces of creation into manifestation. The love that is possible when birthed from this union is that of the unconditional sacred heart of Divine Source. By balancing, transforming, honoring and integrating our Divine Feminine and Masculine energies, we write a new future for ourselves, humanity and this planet.

If any human being is to reach full maturity both the masculine and feminine sides of the personality must be brought up into consciousness. – M. Esther Harding
